created for the In Place Exhibition at the former Hickory Hollow Mall

I grew up in Franklin, Tennessee and visited Hickory Hollow Mall in the ‘80s and ‘90s when it was a booming commercial space filled with shops, food, and people. While researching the mall in preparation for In Place, I came across an old advertisement from this era that includes a list of the now vacant restaurants and stores that I remember, such as Castner-Knott, Cinnabon, and Sears. Beneath this long list of retailers, I found the mall’s former advertising slogan “Just More” spelled out in pink letters. For this site-specific piece installed in an abandoned store in the mall, I borrowed language from the ad to reference the once vibrant consumer space.
