Service Statement, 2014
As a faculty member at an institution of higher learning, I believe it is important to serve my community, university, and profession in ways beyond teaching and research.
My current service activities include co-directing the Pearl Conard Art Gallery on Ohio State Unviersity's Mansfield campus through which I arrange a variety of exhibitions featuring contemporary artists from around the world. My responsibilities as co-director of the gallery include maintaining and cataloging the Mansfield Campus' permanent art collection, which includes works from notable artists including Jean Miro, Pablo Picasso, Trinidad Osorio, Pedro Friedeberg, and David A. Siquieros. I have organized several exhibitions of selections from the Goodman Collection on the Mansfield campus to provide students, faculty, and the Mansfield community an opportunity to enjoy these works.
I served on the Mansfield Campus Arts and Lectures Committee from 2010-2012 and was committee chair in 2012. My contributions to this committee include arranging presentations by the director of MIT’s Center for Future Civic Media and a Hollywood special effects makeup artist. I currently serve as secretary on the Executive Committee at The Ohio State University Mansfield.
I have participated in several art-related community service activities in Richland County and surrounding areas. I am most proud of my participation in a recent project titled Shifting Perspectives in the Community, an initiative to create positive photographic imagery depicting the lives of individuals with Down syndrome that was sponsored by the Dublin Ohio Arts Council and the Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio. I also currently serve on the board of directors and chair the education committee for the Mansfield Art Center, a nonprofit organization charged with bringing the visual arts to the citizens of North Central Ohio.
In addition to campus and community service, I stay active in professional associations by attending College Arts Association conferences, and I exhibited my creative work in conjunction with the 2010 Midwestern Society for Photographic Education conference. I am excited to continue my involvement in professional communities while contributing to the vibrancy of the arts in Richland County and on the OSU-Mansfield campus.
